Looking for Accommodation through the Private Rental Listing Service

ABOUT THE PRIVATE RENTAL LISTING SERVICE

The Accommodation Service administers a Private Rental Listings Service, providing an up to date list of accommodation vacancies.

Each listing contains detailed information about the vacancy and contact details are provided, enabling direct contact with the person advertising the vacancy.

SEARCHING THE PRIVATE RENTAL LISTINGS FOR ACCOMMODATION

There are two ways to view the Private Rental Listings Database:

View in two locations on campus:

  1. Outside Support Services reception Level 2, Lincoln building (C8A)
  2. Outside Student Central (C5C)

HOW TO READ THE PRIVATE RENTAL LISTINGS

What does each accommodation listing contain:

Understanding the headings and information provided for each listing:

Explanation
Suburb
  • Location in Sydney, NSW
Rent
  • Rent per person per week (unless stated otherwise)
Dwelling Type
  • See 'Abbreviations and Definitions' below for explanations on these
Degree of furnishings available
  • Furnished = Fully furnished with necessary furniture
  • Partly furnished = Includes some furniture but you are required to provide any further
  • Unfurnished = Room has no furniture
Preferred
  • M = Male preferred
  • F = Female preferred
  • N/S = Non-smoker
  • No Preference= No preference or unspecified
Description
  • This is a brief explanation of the accommodation listing available.
  • Information included: what is available, to share or not, what rent includes or doesn’t include, transport details, description of the dwelling and room/s.
Contact Person
  • Use the contact details available to contact the landlord directly to arrange a meeting.
Phone & Email
  • You can use the phone numbers and email address to enquire directly to the contact person provided about the accommodation available.

 

DWELLING TYPES

 
Explanation
Room
  • Room in dwelling (e.g. house, townhouse, unit, etc) sharing with other students or professional people. Share common areas of the dwelling: kitchen, dining, lounge, and bathroom.
Homestay
  • Room for rent in a house, unit etc sharing with a couple or family - family like environment
Unit
  • Part or all of a unit is available for rent. Rooms are can be for rent individually. Number of rooms will be shown.
House
  • A whole house that is available for rent, rooms are not for rent individually. Number of rooms will be shown.
Studio
  • A self-contained unit in one large room, with separate bathroom.

Twin
Share

  • Where two students share one bedroom.
Boarding House
  • A house established for short-term or long-term rental accommodation. Share common areas. Not necessarily other students.
Granny Flat
  • Small self-contained flat with bedroom, lounge room, kitchen and bathroom, which is attached to, or part of a larger house. Suit single or couple.
Bed-sitter
  • Self-contained studio room with kitchenette and separate bathroom, which is attached to, or part of a larger house.
Full board
  • Full Board, cost includes meals as well as room. Inclusions vary: e.g meals during week,  linen, washing, Ironing
